a little more about me

Born and raised in Seattle, I spent much of my time as a child in the kitchen. Always curious, I began cooking simply to see if I could and continued until it became my career. After studying history at Lewis and Clark College in Portland, Oregon, I shifted course and began cooking. A year, and three restaurants later, I traded Portland for Italy to pursue a degree in food science from the University of Gastronomic Sciences. Three years, many trips, and an infinite number of meals later, with a degree in hand, I moved back to Seattle and began teaching.

Now in my sixth year of teaching, I do my best encourage the perfectionists among us to favor process and understanding over a perfect end result. I believe food should be simple and delicious, and I take pride in creating simple and thoughtful meals with you and for you. In a world that encourages perfection and beauty in every aspect of our lives, I am a firm believer that it’s important to be playful, hope for the best, and learn from our (inevitable) mishaps, especially in the kitchen.

At home in Seattle, I have three cats (and have a firm cap at three), a large vegetable garden where I spend my time trying to convince slugs to leave my plants alone (they are not great listeners), and a pantry stocked with a lifetime supply of pasta and enough dried beans to make my grandmother certain of my (and her) survival during any pandemic.
